Topic 10: Online Sharing

I used Padlet as my choice for this project because it was very simple to use and also required no log in which is awesome. I defiantly could see myself using Padlet in the future even though I am not much of a online sharer. It was also neat that you can post on peoples wall anonymously so that you don't have to reveal any information to others. Padlet had no instructions on creating your wall but really does not need it because its that easy to use.

Here is my Padlet example:

Topic 9: Evaluating Information Web Sites & Citing Sources

3. You are responsible for writing a paper on the production of electricity in your state. Which resource is least likely to have biased information:

My Answer: The electric company that sets the rates for your electricity

Actual Answer: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (www.epa.gov)

It makes sense that the Agency would have least likely biased information because it is government controlled. The electric company could have biased info because they are a company so there purpose is to persuade consumers to invest in their business.

9. When you are assessing a website's objectivity, which of the following would you not examine?

My Answer: Advertising on the website

Actual Answer: The currency of hyperlinks on the website

I have always ignored advertisements because the amount that is displayed and how often you see them everyday. I always thought that advertisements did not matter but some ads actually relate to the websites.

Topic 8: Books and Reading

1) I used Shelfari to create my reading shelf because it was very easy to set up and use especially if you already have a amazon account which allows you to use it for a Shelfari which means there is literally no information that you have to fill out. One feature that I really liked about Shelfari was that when you select it book it gives you the amazon links to buy the book if you ever decide to and plus its amazon so you can find some really good deals. I have never used a website like this before but it is awesome for me because I am not the biggest reading fan so Shelfari allows me to keep track of what I read and can also recommend books that I may be interested in. There are not a lot of drawbacks tho this site but if I were to point one out it would be the process of adding books to your shelf. It is easy to find, select and add the book to your shelf but you click "add to shelf" in my opinion it tells you to fill out much detail on the book like: rate the book, summary, share this, tags and the status. Granted you can totally ignore it and skip through it is annoying every now and then in my opinion.

Topic 7: Documents & Presentations

1) Google Drive is a great tool for students to use for schoolwork. Google Drive is a cloud service service which can store things like documents, photos and videos. The main reason I use Google Drive is because of Google Docs. If you have ever used Microsoft Word then you will have no problems using Google Docs. Creating and working on documents with Google Docs has some cool features that Microsoft Word does not have. Since Google Docs is a part of the cloud service Google Drive it allows you to have multiple users working on the same document at the same time which means it will be a lot easier for partners in classes to work on shared assignments together without having to deal with emailing each other their documents to combine their work. Another great feature is its auto save feature. The document you work on automatically saves after every change you make and you continue to work as it saves itself. Ever forget to save your documents? Well even if you close your document Google Drive will save it exactly where you left off. Here is a link to my book timeline in my Google Drive.

2) The web tool I decided to review is called Soundcloud. Soundcloud is a online audio platform where users can discover and share their favorite type of music to anyone. For artists and music producers Soundcloud is ideal for uploading, recording and promoting your original tracks. Soundcloud supports any format and and size for audio tracks including recorded live sets and concerts which can range from 1 to 2 hours long. Although Soundcloud contains millions of diverse music it also supports audiobooks, podcasts, and multiple topic discussions. Another audio platform that is similar to Soundcloud is called Spotify. Although I would not recommend this over Soundcloud simply because it is digital rights management-restricted content from record labels which means it does not heavily support local artist and music producers and there are ads unless you pay premium. Follow me on Soundcloud

3) Here is my Glogster which is all about electronic music.

Topic 6: Creating Animations & Videos

Video I Created:

http://www.dvolver.com/live/movies-1026304

I chose Dvolver to create my video/animation because it is free to use and does not require anyone user to create an account, you simply go to their website and start working. There were not a whole lot of options to pick from in terms of characters, setting, movement and music but it is enough to make a short story. Some tips I will mention when using Dvolver is to leave a space on the first line when entering the text for the characters so it will look more centered on the speech bubble in your video and also to add music if it fits your video so that there is audio that is present instead of having it completely mute like mine. This video/animation creator will be helpful for my senior project for when i need to quickly describe something using animations during a presentation.

Topic 5: Creating Your Own Images

https://www.canva.com/                                                                           http://www.ribbet.com/

I used Canva to create the "NBmazur" picture for profiles like my email, social media and other sites that give you the option of having a profile picture.  The quote was made through Ribbet which is a lot simpler to use because there were only two steps in making the picture and that was finding a picture and type in the text, that was it. This site is really good for creating pictures for fun.

Topic 4: Photos, Images and Giving Credit

1) Questions:

    a) What are the punishments for using copyrighted material without publishing it or getting                      permission from the original owner?

    b) Is copyright and trademarking the same thing?

2) Answers:

    a) The violater of the copyright material can pay from $200 to $150,000 for each work and also               pays the amount of profit made and damages. They must also pay for all attorneys fees and                 court costs. Lastly the person may also go to jail.

    b) No, copyrights and trademarking are not the same but are similar. Copyright protects work of              owner like music, plays, photos and movies while trademarking identifies/distinguishes the                  source of the holder like a word, phrase or symbol.

3) What is a Creative Commons License and why is it important?

A Creative Commons License is a copyright license that allows the use of copyrighted work. This is important because it can help share work created by those and can also be used by others to add to the original.

These two pictures represent what i may use in my book trailer because they were taken in the same time period that the book takes place in and also both showcase American World War II bombers which symbolizes a part of the story with the characters.

Topic 3

1) Blogging can be used to enhance high school studies because students can easily access and use it with their mobile devices which most people have. students can create blogs about certain school related topics that can help other students like for example a post about how to stay organize or how to take notes can really be helpful to other students and with blogs students can comment with each other and be more social.

2) Louis Silvie Zamperini or Louie, who is the main charter in the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, is a Italian descent american who was born in Olean, New York. Zamperini grew up from being a kid getting bullied at school to becoming a Olympic track star and a second lieutenant in the US Army Air Forces. His crew mates Russel Allen Phillips and Francis McNamara were the 3 survivors from a plane crash over the pacific ocean. They all shared one problem which was their fight for survival. If Louis Zamperini went to my high school i would be friends with him mainly because he was a a runner in the track team just like how I was to.

3) The book takes place in the past during World War II (1941-1945) across the country of Japan and the vast pacific ocean. The characters in the book must survive without food or drinkable water and facing the fears of the pacific ocean from the killer sharks, to the storms of the ocean while fighting the Japanese military during a war.

Topic 2: Avatars

What Is an Avatar?

An avatar is a illustration of yourself or a picture that represents you. Avatars are used on most social media sites and profiles and can be used to better recognize the user.

My Avatar

The current avatar I have on my blogger profile was made through DoppleMe, it was very simple to use and had enough customization for my avatar to look the way i wanted it to be. In a way I tried to make it look and dress the way I do but working with non-fiction cartoon characters will obviously not be able to match the way you really look. The hairstyle and eyes are the closest things that match me and the shirt and tie represent characterize me as a hard worker.

Topic 1: Digital Citizenship

What Is Digital Citizenship?

Digital Citizenship is the responsible one carries when accessing technology and how one behaves on the internet.

What Are The Rights and Responsibilities of A Digital Citizen In Today’s World?

Before sharing a picture, video or a comment be sure to have ask yourself if sharing it can potentially harm yourself or others involved in your post. Avoid sharing personal information about you or others and make sure that only the people you know have access to view what you post.

My Digital Footprint

I tried myself searching for my name on Google to see what would show up and most of the links are to multiple social media sites but with different people every time sharing the same name. I did not find any of them linked to me but in my case i have more than two names which can make it difficult to search for me.
